Highland (4-9) handed Canton their first loss of the season with a come from behind 7-4 win at Highland. The September 14, 2021 contest saw Highland score three times in their fifth and four more in the sixth inning. Canton (7-1, Ranked second in Missouri softball Class 1).
Emilee Gorrell led off the Tiger third inning with a base hit. Emma Hultz got a hit but was thrown out at third base for the first out. Gorrell scored on the play for a one run Canton lead.
Kenzie Guilfoyle stroked a two out hit. Macy Glasgow drove Guilfoyle in with the second Canton run of the third inning.
Kinsey Biggerstaff doubled with two out in the Canton fifth inning but was stranded after a Payton Mille strikeout. Emma Harshberger led off the Highland fifth inning with a hit. Mikayla Dreyer reached base on a fielder’s choice with Harshberger out at second base.
Payton Miller made it a one run game with an RBI double. Ashley Kaylor tripled to right field, scoring Payton Miller for a two all tie. Olivia Ritterbusch put the Lady Cougars on top of a 3-2 score with a sacrifice fly.
Mikayla Dreyer singled with two out in the Highland sixth inning. Ashley Kaylor and Olivia Ritterbusch walked, filling the bases with two down. Haleigh Winter drilled a two RBI hit to right field for a 6-2 Highland lead.
Olivia Ritterbusch scored on an error for a 7-2 Cougar lead. Canton fought back in the seventh inning. Nariah Clay drew a walk from Payton Miller. Kenzie Guilfoyle doubled Clay to third base with one out.
Kenzie Biggerstaff doubled both runners home for a 7-4 Highland lead. Payton Miller induced a ground ball to end the game. Canton scored four runs on eight hits. Kenzie Guilfoyle was 2-4 with a run scored. Kinsey Biggerstaff was 2-2 for Canton with two RBI’s.
Kenzie Guilfoyle pitched the six inning distance for Canton, striking out seven batters on four walks. Guilfoyle allowed seven runs, six earned on eight hits.
Highland scored seven runs on eight hits. Payton Miller was 2-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored. Haleigh Winter went 3-3 with two runs batted in. Payton Miller tossed seven full innings striking out eight with three walks on eight hits. All four runs charged to Miller were earned.
