La Plata Edges Brashear In Tri-County Softball Showdown

Paige Carvajal snapped a one all tie with a seventh inning home run during September 17, 2021 Tri-County Conference softball action at Brashear. All stater Olivia Coy tripled then Audrey Belfield gave La Plata in insurance run for a 3-1 Bulldog win.
Brashear (4-5, 3-1) took a one run lead when Aubrey Borgmeyer led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk. Borgmeyer stole second base and scored on an error for a 1-0 lead.
The teams battled until Peiper Wood reached on a two base error with one out in the top of the fourth. Paige Carvajal laid down a bunt resulting in a tie game. Olivia Coy doubled. Sierra Snyder was able to throw a runner out attempting to reach third for the second out.
Alexa Borgmeyer fanned a batter to end the inning. Brashear filled the bases in the bottom of the fourth. Haley McNamar was hit by a 1-2 pitch leading off the Tiger fourth. Sierra Snyder reached on an infield hit. C Althide bunted her way on base with one out.
La Plata (6-5, 1-0) threw a runner out at the plate for the second out. A ground out to second base ended the inning without Brashear scoring. The game was tied at one all after four full innings.
Sierra Snyder cracked a two out double with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Peiper Wood fielded a ground ball for the final out. La Plata scored the two eventual game winning runs.
Olivia Coy struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh inning, sealing the 3-1 Bulldog win. La Plata scored three runs on seven hits.
Paige Carvajal and Olivia Coy went 2-3 each with a run scored. Carvajal drove in two La Plata runs. Audrey Belfield had a bunt single and an RBI. Olivia Coy struck out 11 batters in seven innings. Coy allowed six hits and one run and a walk.
Brashear scored one run on six hits. Sierra Snyder was 2-3 at bat for the Lady Tigers. Four players had a hit each. Alexa Borgmeyer struck out 15 batters on seven hits and no walks. Two of the three Bulldog runs were earned.
