Kaitlyn Hatfield had a career night, leading Schuyler County (2-6, 2-1) to a 7-0 Lewis and Clark Conference softball win at Knox County. The September 16, 2021 varsity game saw Hatfield go 4-4 at bat, hit three home runs over the fence and drive in four runs.
Kaitlyn Hatfield struck out nine Knox County batters, limiting the Lady Eagles (2-6, 1-2) to five hits on the day. Tinsley Roberts doubled off Knox County pitcher Daniela Dooley with one out in the first inning.
Kaitlyn Hatfield lofted a two run homer over the right field fence for a 2-0 lead after one inning. Kyra Cullers doubled with one out in the Ram second inning. Lady Eagle right fielder Shalee Zuccarini picked a fly ball out of a cloudless high sky for the third out of a scoreless second inning.
Kait Hatfield doubled with two out in the Schuyler County third inning. Makinley Aeschliman doubled the runner home for a 3-0 lead after three full innings. Knox County had a runner in scoring position when Taylor Walker drew a base on balls leading off the second inning.
Kait Hatfield induced three straight outs, leaving Walker on second base. Jen Hinkle cracked a two out double in the Lady Eagle third inning. Daniela Dooley followed with a hit. Hatfield induced a ground ball back to the circle, stranding two KCHS baserunners.
Knox County had a chance to score in the fifth inning. Shalee Zuccarini reached on a two out error. Jen Hinkle and Daniela Dooley singled. Schuyler County threw the KCHS runner out at home plate trying to score for the third out.
Tralyn Wilson singled leading off the top of the seventh inning. Schuyler County led 6-0 after six full innings. Taylor Walker fired to second baseman Baila Miller who tagged Wilson out stealing for the first out of the seventh inning.
The solid defensive play wound up saving Knox County a run. Kaitlyn Hatfield drilled a home run over the fence for a 7-0 Schuyler County lead. A fly ball and two strikeouts ended the game with Schuyler County taking the 7-0 win.
Schuyler County scored seven runs on ten hits Kyra Cullers was 2-3 for Schuyler County with a run scored and another batted in. Tinley Roberts had two hits and scored a run.
Knox County was blanked on five hits. Jen Hinkle and Daniela Dooley went 2-3 each at the plate. Taylor Walker reached base in two of three plate appearances drawing a walk along with a base hit.
Daniela Dooley pitched the seven inning distance. Dooley struck out six batters with no walks on ten hits.
Knox County starts off a busy week of varsity softball by traveling to Brashear on Monday, September 20, 2021. The Lady Eagles play at Fayette (weather permitting) on Tuesday, September 21.
Westran travels to Knox County for Lewis and Clark Softball action on Thursday, September 23. Knox County is scheduled to participate in the Louisiana Varsity Softball Tournament on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
