Clark County Edges Highland In Late Inning Thriller

Gloria Shannon’s two out, two RBI seventh inning double gave Clark County (8-8) the margin of victory in September 23, 2021 Clarence Cannon Conference softball action at Highland. The Lady Cougars (7-11) had the tying and winning runs on second and third base when a fly ball to second base ended the game.
Clark County scored five runs on 12 hits for a 5-4 victory. Highland had 11 hits on the night. Payton Miller was 3-4 for Highland with two RBI’s. Olivia Ritterbusch went 3-4 at bat for Highland. Haleigh Winter was 2-4 with a Cougar run scored.
Highland scored a third inning run when Sydney Sedelmeier walked and scored on Payton Miller’s two out RBI hit for a one run Cougar lead after three full innings. Clark County answered with a two run fourth inning.
Gloria Shannon led off the Indian fourth inning with a double. Maggie Weaver pinch ran. Alexis Ellison tripled Weaver home, tying the game at one all. Ally Fox bunted Ellison home for a 2-1 Clark County edge.
Highland came right back with a two run fourth inning. Olivia Ritterbusch led off with a Highland single. Haleigh Winter singled to Ally Fox in center field. Fox threw the Highland runner out trying to score for the first out of the inning.
Kirsten Fisher squeezed Haleigh Winter home for a 2-2 tie. Kylie Smith walked and scored the third Cougar run on an error. Blair Webster kept a Highland runner stranded on third for the final out.
Highland led 3-2 after four full innings. Mikayla Dreyer singled leading off the Highland fifth inning. Payton Miller doubled, scoring Dreyer for a 4-2 Highland lead. Olivia Ritterbusch and Haleigh Winter singled for Highland.
Alexis Ellison came in to pitch for Clark County. Ellison fanned a batter to end the inning. Blair Webster pitched four and two third innings for Clark County with four strikeouts and two walks on nine hits. Three of the four run charged to Webster were earned.
Highland led 4-2 entering the seventh inning. Ally Fox led off the Indian seventh inning with a base hit. Allie Hayden doubled. Fox home for a 4-3 Cougar edge. Blair Webster reached on a one out fielder’s choice.
Gloria Shannon drilled a two out double putting Clark County ahead by a 5-4 margin. Hanna Hill singled for the Lady Indians. Clark County had runners on first and third base when a ground ball to first base closed the inning.
Ashley Kaylor drew a one out walk in the Highland seventh inning. Olivia Ritterbusch doubled. A ground out to shortstop put Cougars on second and third base with two down.
Alexis Ellison induced a ground out to second base, ending the game with Clark County claiming the 5-4 victory. Clark County scored five runs on 11 hits. Allie Hayden was 3-4 for the Lady Indians with a run batted in.
Gloria Shannon was 3-4 with two Clark County RBI’s. Blair Webster pitched four and 2/3 innings, striking out four with two walks on eight hits. Three of four Highland runs charged to the Indian starter were earned.
Alexis Ellison picked up the win in relief. Ellison struck out three with one walk on three hits and no runs allowed.

Payton Miller went the seven inning distance for Highland. Miller struck out six with two walks on 11 hits. All five Lady Indian runs were earned.
