Fayette (17-1, Ranked fifth in Missouri softball Class 2) opened up a closely played Lewis and Clark Conference game at Knox County with a five run fifth inning for a 10-4 win. The September 21, 2021 saw the Lady Falcons bang out three straight doubles in their fifth inning.
Hannah Quint led off the Fayette second inning with a triple. Skylar Sutherland broke the ice with a ground out to Baila Miller at second base for a one run Falcon lead. Abby Becker reached Fayette hurler Jordyn Ball for a one out third inning double.
Jen Hinkle singled, moving Becker to third base. Daniela Dooley singled Becker home, tying the score at one run each. Fayette came right back and re took the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Hannah Quint and Skylar Sutherland delivered back to back singles leading off the Fayette fourth. Taylor Walker threw Quint out attempting to steal second base for the first out.
Daniela Dooley induced a pop fly off the bat of Bella Asbury for the second out with a runner on first base. Jordyn Ball helped her cause with a Fayette base hit. Kaylea Felten reached on an infield single, filling the bases with two out.
Makenzie Felten drew a bases loaded walk for a 2-1 Fayette lead after four innings. Madi Lawson doubled leading off the top of the fifth inning. Megan Lewis drilled an RBI double. Hannah Quint doubled in another Falcon run.
Bella Asbury plated a run with a base hit for a 5-1 lead. Jordyn Ball blasted the fourth Fayette double of the fifth inning. The Falcons executed a double steal, with Whitley Sutherland stealing home for a 6-1 Fayette lead.
Knox County brought Jen Hinkle in to pltch with the bases full and two out. Preslee Sunderland drew an RBI walk for a 7-1 Fayette lead. Bailey Bowen caught a line drive for the final out of the Fayette fifth inning, leaving the bases loaded.
Bailey Bowen walked leading off the Knox County fifth inning. Bowen stole second base. Jordyn Ball fanned two straight batters. Jen Hinkle tripled Bailey Bowen home for a 7-2 Fayette lead after five full innings.
Knox County challenged their highly successful opponents with two sixth inning runs. Brianna Miller and Taylor Walker singled at the top of the inning. Brianna Miller raced home with a manufactured run. Baila Miller singled Walker home.
The Lady Eagles pulled within a 7-4 deficit entering the seventh inning. Preslee Sunderland singled a run home. Madi Lawson and Megan Lewis drove in a run each. The Lady Eagles got out of a bases loaded two out situation without further scoring. Jordyn Ball set the Lady Eagles down in order in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Fayette scored ten runs on 13 hits. Hannah Quint was 4-5 with two runs scored and another batted in. Jordyn Ball was 3-4 at bat for the Falcons. Ball pitched the seventh inning distance, striking out 11 with one walk on seven hits. Two of the KCHS four runs were earned.
Knox County scored four runs on eight hits. Jen Hinkle and Daniela Dooley went 2-4 with an RBI each. Daniela Dooley pitched five innings with two strikeouts and four walks on 13 hits.
Jen Hinkle went two innings with a strikeout, two walks and three runs on three hits. Knox County took on Westran in their next conference contest.
