Highland scored six runs in the bottom of the second and third innings in non-conference softball play with Hannibal. Haleigh Winter was 4-4 at the plate with three runs batted in helping lead the Lady Cougars to a 14-0 win in five innings.
The September 22, 2021 game was postponed due to wet grounds at Hannibal and moved to Highland. Payton Miller struck out seven batters in a no hit pitching performance.
Kylie McAfee pitched for Hannibal, striking out one with two walks on 15 hits. Seven of the 14 Highland runs were earned.
Haleigh Winter led off the Highland second inning with a double. Kylie Smith bunted Winter to second base. Kirsten Fisher singled putting Cougars on first and third base with one out.
Emilie Sparrow squeezed Winter home with the first Highland run. Emma Harshberger tripled in two Highland runs. Mikayla Dreyer singled Emma Harshberger home for a four run Highland lead.
Payton Miller and Haleigh Winter singled home two more scores for a 6-0 Cougar lead after two innings. Kirsten Fisher doubled leading off the Highland third inning. Emma Harshberger lofted a sacrifice fly scoring Fisher. Harshberger reached on an error.
Ashley Kaylor delivered a two out RBI hit for an 8-0 Highland lead. Haleigh Winter doubled in two more Highland runs. Kylie Smith singled Kaylor home for a 12-0 Highland lead.
The Lady Cougars put two more runs on the board in their fourth inning. Sydney Sedelmeier plated Ellie Goehl with an RBI hit. Mikala Dreyer stroked a one out hit and scored on Payton Miller’s sacrifice fly.
Alana Pfeifer reached on a one out error in the Hannibal (4-14) fourth inning, spoiling the perfect game bid. Two strikeouts erased the error, preserving the shutout.
Highland scored 14 runs on 17 hits. Mikayla Dreyer went 4-4 at bat with three runs scored and an RBI. Kirsten Fisher was 3-3 with two runs scored. Payton Miller had a hit and two runs batted in.
