Monroe City (12-7) scored three times in the first inning and four more second inning runs for an 8-4 win over Knox County (7-12) in the championship semifinal round of the October 2, 2021 Schuyler County Varsity Softball Tournament. The game was stopped after four innings by the time limit.
Sixth seeded Knox County got on the board in the first inning. Jen Hinkle walked in the first inning and scored on a bases loaded free pass for a 1-0 Lady Eagle lead.
Monroe City came back with three runs in the bottom of the first. Carly Youngblood walked leading off the Panther first inning. Mackenzie Moss doubled Youngblood home with the tying run.
Audri Youngblood singled with none out. L Pratt and J Johnson scored two out hits. Monroe City led by a 3-1 margin after one full inning. Knox County threatened in their second inning but failed to score.
Bailey Bowen walked leading off the top of inning two. Daniela Dooley delivered a two out hit. Audri Youngblood induced a ground out, keeping the Lady Eagles scoreless. Belle Clark hit a two run homer in the Panther second. Carly Youngblood tripled and scored. Mackenzie Moss reached base on an error and scored for a 7-1 Panther lead after two full frames.
Knox County fought back with a three run third inning. Taylor Walker and Baila Miller drew walks and later scored. Bailey Bowen and Agnes Reel singled with two out. Bowen scored for a 7-4 Panther lead.
A Youngblood singled and scored on Kailynn Fuemmler’s fourth inning hit. The time limit was enforced after a ground out. Monroe City advanced to the championship game with an 8-4 win.
Monroe City scored eight runs on 12 hits. Audri Youngblood was 3-3 for the Panthers with two runs scored and another batted in. K Nash and Belle Clark were 2-2 with a run scored each. Clark had two Panther RBI’s.
Audri Youngblood pitched the four inning distance, striking out six on five hits and eight walks. Three of the four Lady Eagle runs were earned.
Knox County scored four runs on three hits. Daniela Dooley went 2-2 for Knox County at the plate with a walk. Daniela Dooley pitched three and a third innings, walking four with a strikeout and eight hits. Six of the eight Panther runs were earned.
Monroe City went on to win the 2021 Schuyler County tournament with a 3-2 win over top seeded, and top ranked in Class 1 Canton Lady Tigers.
