MARY LYNN WILSON LANEY

Mary Lynn (Wilson) Laney, 74, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on October 30, 2021. She was born May 14, 1947, in Knox County, Missouri, to Shelton and Marjorie (Killen) Wilson.

Mary was a 1965 graduate from Knox County R-I High School in Edina, Mo. She furthered her education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now known as Truman State University in Kirksville, where she obtained a master’s degree in education. She taught in Burlington, Iowa, and then was a 7th grade science teacher in Kahoka, Mo. Later she took a position with the University of Missouri working as a chemistry storeroom keeper for the next 34 years until her retirement.

Mary enjoyed knitting, wood carving, painting, gardening, and reading. She was a faithful member of Christian Fellowship Church of Columbia, Mo., for over 40 years and was very active in their small groups. Mary’s husband James described her as a loving and loyal wife who was a good Christian woman with a meek and gentle spirit, remarking “If you didn’t love Mary, you didn’t know her.”

She is survived by her husband James Laney of Columbia; two brothers: Doug Wilson and Mike Wilson, both of Knox City; and nieces and nephews: Karla, Rhonda, Connie, James, Teresa, Shawn, Helen, Sara, and Kate along with all of their families.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Judith Klocke, a nephew, Brian Klocke, and one brother, Donnie Wilson.

A memorial service was held Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 11 a.m. in the Christian Fellowship Church with pastor Scott Williams officiating.
