Hannibal (6-9) fired in 11 three pointers and limited Highland to 40 points in a 73-40 Tony Lenzini Tournament win. The boy’s championship semifinal game saw Hannibal triple team Cougar forward Drew Mallett when he got the ball in the high post much of the first half.
The Pirates took a 6-2 first quarter lead. Hannibal led 16-10 after the first period. Cameron Bringer turned in a three point play, pulling Highland back within a 19-13 deficit with 6:53 remaining in the first half.
Aaris Stolte and Courtland Watson tossed in Pirate three balls for a 28-13 lead with 3:11 showing on the second quarter clock. Hannibal converted their scoring chances during a 13-2 run to a 32-15 lead.
Highland (12-6) battled back with a 6-2 run of their own. The Pirates led 34-21 at intermission. Hannibal spread the Cougars out offensively. Hannibal still hit shots. The Pirates drove past Highland defenders in the third quarter for a 54-31 lead.
Hannibal played extremely well, especially in the third period. It was not Highland’s night. Hannibal led 69-39 with 1:50 to play in the game. Aaris Stolte scored a game high 24 Pirate points. Courtland Watson was in double figures with 15 points.
Drew Mallett led Highland with 16 points. Alex Meyer was in double figures with ten points. Cameron Bringer scored nine points. CJ Eaton came off the Cougar bench and scored five points.
