Eagles Take Conference Win over Tigers

EDINA, Mo.- 4/11/22- The Scotland County baseball Tigers (3-5, 1-1) travelled to Edina to take on the Knox County Eagles (5-3, 3-0) in conference action. The game was a pitcher’s duel, but defensive mistakes by the Tigers allowed the Eagles to blow this one open in the bottom of the sixth and secure the 10-2 victory.
Knox County got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Branson Miller scored after tagging up on a Robert Dooley RBI sac fly to center. Braxton McCurren scored when a Vince Dale pitch got past Logan Buford.
In the top of the second, the Tigers put one of their own across the plate when Xavier Lucas unleashed a bomb over the right center field fence for a lead-off solo shot. The Tigers trailed 2-1 mid second.
The game then went scoreless until the bottom of the fourth. Joey Davis was hit by pitch and then advanced to third. He was scored on a Dooley RBI ground out. The Eagles led 3-1 after four innings.
Scotland County got on the board again in the top of the fifth. Owen Triplett reached with a single to right and was scored when Elias Hatfield hit an RBI sac fly to right. The Eagle lead was trimmed to 3-2 mid fifth.
But Knox County had a two-run answer in their half of the frame. Miller was hit by pitch to start the inning and was later scored when Kellen Parrish hit into a fielder’s choice. Dooley reached on a walk and was later scored on an error on the throw down to second base. The Eagles led 5-2 after five innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, a pair of walks, a hit by pitch, a pair of singles and a Braxton McCurren triple set the stage for a five- run inning. The inning gave the Eagles a 10-2 lead after six innings. The Tigers were unable to score in the top of the seventh and Knox County had secured the 10-2 conference win.
Vince Dale got the start and the loss for the Tigers. He worked five innings and put up a line including four walks, three strikeouts, four hits and eight runs against 27 batters. Ian Wilson worked the final inning for the Tigers.
Blake Parrish started and got the win for the Eagles. His line featured four innings of work against 21 batters. He had five strikeouts and one walk. He allowed two runs on eight hits, including a home run. Rylan Roberts worked the final three innings. He struck out six and only walked three. He allowed a single hit and no runs.
Scotland County’s Lucas was two of three hitting with a home run. Hatfield was one of three with the team’s other RBI.
For Knox County, Issac McCurren, Braxton McCurren and Dooley each had two RBIs. As a team, the Eagles were 8 of 25 at the plate.
