Donald Clyde Wilkens, 77, of Nauvoo, Illinois, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Born on November 3, 1944, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Margaret (Koechle) Wilkens. On July 10, 1965, he married Mary Louise Hutson at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo. They later divorced.

He is survived by his son: Jim Wilkens of Lewistown, Missouri; daughter: Jackie (Larry) Melton of Bucklin, Missouri; six grandchildren: Cody (Autumn) Wilkens, Justin Wilkens, Donnie (Kodi) Melton, Megan (Leland Malloy) Berry Melton, Candace (Reuben) Yoder, Ronnie (Makaila Ohmenus) Melton; ten great-grandchildren: Parker, Berkley and Timber Melton, Chloe Berry, Hutson Melton, MaKenzee, Liam Yoder, Brogan, Mayson and Kensley Melton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in infancy.

Don was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus in Nauvoo. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and hogs and checking his crops. Don sold Wayne Feed and was very knowledgeable about trees. Together Don and Louie Boyles built trailers for hauling equipment and livestock. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, son-in-law Larry and going out to eat and visiting with his farm friends.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at the Schmitz-Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo with Father Thomas Szydlick as celebrant.

Burial will be held in the Nauvoo City Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
