Family Home Ravaged by Fire in Rural Knox County

Knox County, MO – Monday, June 20, 2022 – A family of five lost their home to fire Monday afternoon. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the blaze.
Firefighters from the Hurdland, Novelty/Plevna, and Edina volunteer fire departments, and the Knox County Rescue Squad rushed to the home on Nightingale Avenue in rural Knox County at approximately 3:00 p.m. The home is located between Hurdland and Novelty just south of State Route F. Emergency personnel from the Knox County Ambulance District and the Knox County Sheriff also responded to the scene.
On arrival, firefighters found the southwest wall of the home and portions of the roof being overtaken by flames. Emergency personnel rushed to deliver water to the fire utilizing an assortment of equipment and a drop tank. Firefighters also used water from a nearby swimming pool to help extinguish the flames.
According to family members, two people were home at the time of the fire, one adult and one child, who did make it out of the fire safely. The family’s pets, five dogs, were not injured in the fire.
It is believed the fire started in the vicinity of the master bedroom located in the southwest section of the home.
Five people are displaced by the fire including two adults and three children.
The Knox County Ministerial Alliance and the American Red Cross have been notified about the devastating loss and are expected to assist the family with their immediate needs.
