Schuyler County (9-15) answered the first score of October 13, 2022 District 10 semifinal action at La Plata with a seven run fifth inning for a 7-2 win over Brashear. The second seeded Lady Tigers finished a strong season with a 13-8 overall record.
Four year starting Seniors Haley McNamar and Mackenzie Baker played their final softball games for Brashear.
Pitchers Alexa Borgmeyer of Brashear and Kait Hatfield of Schuyler County dueled for the first three innings of scoreless softball. Kait Hatfield and Raina Small doubled in the Ram first inning.
Alexa Borgmeyer struck out the side, stranding runners on second and third base with no scoring. Brashear threatened in the bottom of the first. Aubrey Borgmeyer led off with a Tiger triple. Cassidy Althide walked. Schuyler County pulled off a double play to end the inning.
Brashear had runners in the second and third innings but failed to score. Schuyler County had a scoring chance when Hailey Roberts led off the Ram second inning with a walk.
“The girls were read to hit,” Schuyler County coach Jana Dalton said. “We were aggressive at the plate. We made some big defensive plays. We had an error, they we threw out a runner.”
Madison Blackorby singled. Two Alexa Borgmeyer walks shut the rally down. Brashear broke through in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lacey Fisher reached on a one out dropped third strike.
Haley McNamar and Alexa Borgmeyer followed with hits. Alexa Borgmeyer plated Fisher with a two out RBI hit and a 1-0 Tiger lead.
Fifth inning Schuyler County leadoff batter Ava Akers drew a walk. Raina Small doubled. Hailey Roberts drilled a bases clearing triple. Schuyler County led 7-1 after five innings.
Lana Vansickle singled leading off the Brashear fifth inning. Paige Stutsman doubled. Maddie Moots delivered an RBI ground out for a 7-2 Ram lead. Aubrey Borgmeyer walked.
Kait Hatfield induced a ground out back to the circle and a fly ball for the third out. Heidi Lay singled with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That was about the extent of offense the rest of the game.
Schuyler County scored seven runs on ten hits. Kait Hatfield was 2-4 with an RBI. Raina Small and Ashlyn Laws had two hits and a run scored each. Hailey Roberts was 2-3 for Schuyler County with a run scored and three batted in.
Kait Hatfield was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts, three walks on six hits. Both Tiger runs were earned. Schuyler County lost to La Plata by a 7-3 final score in the district 10 championship game.
Brashear scored two runs on six hits. Six different Lady Tigers had a hit each. The teams left five runners each on base.
Alexa Borgmeyer pitched the seven inning distance. Alexa Borgmeyer struck out 14 batters with three walks on ten hits. All seven Ram runs were earned.
