Second ranked Green City ran the table at the November 28-December 3, 2022 Novinger Varsity Basketball tournament, downing second seeded Atlanta (3-1) by a 56-34 margin in the boys championship game.
Novinger broke a long championship drought, winning the girl’s first place game by a 46-22 final score over Grundy County-Newtown/Harris. Atlanta defeated the Kirksville girls JV 51-21 for third place. Grundy Co. topped Novinger for the boys’ third place award 60-53.
The Kirksville Boys JV put forth a strong second half performance, overtaking Brashear by a 56-53 win in the boy’s consolation championship game. Brashear edged Green City by a 37-36 final score for the girl’s consolation championship.
First round results included top seeded Atlanta over Madison 50-18. Fifth seeded Grundy County/Newtown-Harris got past fourth seeded Green City by a 45-36 first round final.
Second seeded Novinger downed the Macon Girls JV 70-23. The Kirksville girls JV rode a hot shooting fourth quarter to a 45-42 first round win over Brashear. The Lady Tigers rebounded in the consolation semifinal bracket for a 56-25 win over the Macon JV. Green City got past Madison 50-19.
Grundy County bested Atlanta 37-31 in the girls championship semifinals by a 37-31 margin. Novinger got past the Kirksville Girls JV 58-16 in the championship semifinal round.
Brashear topped the Atlanta JV Boys 53-41 in the boy’s consolation bracket. The Kirksville JV got past the Macon JV by a 70-32 final score.
