Highland was hot from the three point line during the first half of their December 8, 2022 Monroe City Tournament boy’s consolation semifinal game with Marion County. The Cougars led 36-22 at the half behind a 20 point effort from Devin Stutsman.
Marion County took advantage of Cougar turnovers outscoring Highland 36-20 in the second half for a 59-58 Highland win. Devin Stutsman led three Cougars in double figures with a game high 23 points.
Brady Campen scored 13 and Curtis Miller fired in 12 second half points. Porter Britt led four Mustangs in double digits with 17 points. Joey Lageman scored 16. Wyatt Golddinger scored 14 points. Jackson Stewart put in ten Marion County points.
Highland took a 19-10 first quarter lead. Brady Campen sank a three ball for a 31-16 lead with four minutes to play in the first half. The Cougars led 36-22 at halftime.
Marion County took better shots in the second half. Curtis Miller scored five quick points for a 46-38 Highland lead with 1:45 to play in the third quarter. Marion County outscored Highland 20-13 in the third quarter for a 49-42 Cougar lead at the three quarter pole.
Marion County pulled within a 51- 50 deficit with 4:51 remaining in the game. Curtis Miller sank a free throw then hit a three ball with 3:20 to play for a 57-50 lead.
Wyatt Golddinger scored a three pointer for a 57-56 Highland edge with 26 seconds showing on the clock. CJ Eaton sank one of two free throws for a 58-56 lead with 18 seconds remaining.
Marion County missed a good shot to tie. Devin Stutsman hit a free throw with 8.5 seconds to play in regulation time for a 59-56 lead. Wyatt Golddinger put back a missed three pointer at the buzzer for the 59-58 final score.
Braden Logsdon scored four Highland points. CJ Eaton put in three points. Chris Gaus and Seth Evans added two points each.
