Atlanta (7-1) came off their seven point win at second ranked Green City with a 78-41 victory over Brashear (3-5) in December 16, 2022 Tri-County Conference action at Brashear. The Hornet boys received votes in the latest Class 1 Missouri Basketball Coaches Association Polls.
The Hornets burst on a 15-2 run to start proceedings. The Hornets led 21-9 after one quarter. Roman Phillips gave Atlanta a 37-17 lead with 2:08 remaining in the first half. The Hornets took a 44-21 lead to the halftime dressing room.
Atlanta led 55-37 after three periods. Brashear took the ball at the Hornet interior defense in an effort to get Atlanta defenders in foul trouble. Jack Reeves drew 6’8” senior Roman Phillips fourth foul with 2:38 remaining in the third quarter.
Atlanta turned the ball over with Phillips on the bench. Carson Erwin scored with 7:08 to play in the fourth quarter for a 57-41 Hornet lead. Atlanta answered with a 12-0 run to a 72-41 lead with four minutes to play in the game.
Landon Gilliland and Sawyer Nelson led all scorers with 19 Atlanta points each. Roman Phillips scored 12 points. Mason Reed was the fourth Hornet in double figures with ten points. JJ White tossed in eight Atlanta points.
Cole Erwin led Brashear with 14 points. Eight different Brashear players scored. Carson Erwin put in eight points. Jack Reeves scored five points. Avery Zentz scored four points. Lucas Keller and Alex Houghton scored three each. Landon Fisher and Deyton White added two points each.
