WILLIAM E. ALBERTY

Honorable William E. Alberty (Ret.) of Canton Missouri, formerly of Edina, Missouri passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Blessing Hospital Quincy, Illinois.

He was born January 3, 1944, in Quincy, Illinois, a son of Edwin “Epp” and Elizabeth “Liz” Barth Alberty.

Bill was a graduate of Canton High School, Class of 62, where he was active in basketball and baseball. He attended Culver Stockton College and continued playing basketball while a student there. In 1966 he graduated from CSC receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Bill was a graduate of University of Missouri-Columbia, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1969. He began his law career working in the prosecuting attorney’s office in St. Joseph, MO.

Bill married Carol Pinion on June 27, 1970, in Caruthersville, MO. They had two children, Wade Alberty and Anne (Alberty) Nienkamp.

In 1971 Bill moved his family to Edina, MO, where he opened his own law office, later adding partners Tom Deveny and David Brown as the business grew. Bill was elected to the Office of Prosecuting Attorney for Knox County, MO in 1971 and held this office until 2006.

In 2006, Bill was elected to serve as the Associate Circuit Judge for 2nd Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri for Knox County. He held this position until his mandatory retirement in Jan 2014 at the age of 70.

Bill married Joyce Roberts May 3, 2013, in LaBelle, MO. The two of them enjoyed many wonderful trips together and spending winters in Arizona. They moved to Forte Mohave, AZ, in 2018, where they enjoyed the mild winters and trying their luck in Las Vegas.

In April of 2022 they moved to Canton, MO, to be closer to family. Bill loved his family. He adored his grandchildren and faithfully wished them a happy birthday every month on the day they were born.

He was a true Cardinal Baseball fan his entire life. He and Joyce even named their dog Yadi. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, colleagues, and especially his brother-in-law, Russ Ward. True to his word, he liked a good scotch, but never, before 5 p.m.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, uncles, Hardin (Bean) Speeler and Bill Alberty, aunt, Louise Orange, brother-in-law, Russ Ward and nephew-in-law, Derek Banta.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Alberty, of Canton, MO; son, Wade (Erin) Alberty of Edwardsville, IL; daughter Anne (Randy) Nienkamp of Columbia, MO; stepson, Steven Fleming of Forte Mohave, AZ; stepdaughter, Jeanette (Devon) Willis of Canton, MO. Grandchildren, Harold Finnegan “Finn” Alberty and Brielle Alberty of Edwardsville, IL; step grandchildren Bobby, Audrey, and Graham Willis of Canton, MO; and Mia Fleming of Forte Mohave, AZ; sister, Margaret (Sherry) Ward of Palmyra, MO; brother, Martin (Lynda) Alberty of Canton, MO; aunt, Barbara Speeler of Conyers, GA; niece, Robin Banta of Palmyra, MO; nephews, Matt (Sheri) Ward of St. Peters, MO; and Philip (Ashley) Hogan of Lake St Louis, MO., and numerous additional nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 30th at Davis Funeral Home 310 N. 7th Street, Canton, MO at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Steve Jarvis officiating and Tom Deveny as Eulogist. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
