BETTY JEAN SCOTT
Betty Jean Scott, age 95, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away January 16, 2023, in Mesa, Arizona.
Betty was born November 21, 1927, in Knox County, Missouri, the daughter of Alfred and Elva Maude Whiteaker Boltz. She was united in marriage to James Leroy Scott on May 31, 1947, in Edina, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2007.
Betty grew up on the family farm receiving her grade school education at the Yankee Street and Bee Ridge Schools. She attended and graduated from the Edina Public School in 1945.
Betty Jean and her husband moved to Kansas City, MO where she was employed as a secretary in the Central parts Warehouse of Western Auto Supply. When this warehouse closed, she transferred to the corporate office (Internal audit and Security department) as a secretary from there to executive secretary to the Vice President of Wholesale operations, later to legal assistant to the Vice President, secretary and council of the Legal Department ending her career of twenty-eight years on May 6, 1988 as executive administrative assistant to the chief executive officer and chairman of the board. Betty Jean was baptized in the Bee Ridge Church and after moving to Mesa, AZ she attended the Valley Baptist Church in Apache Junction, AZ.
Betty Jean is survived by her sister, Elvadean Rowe of Mesa, AZ; four nephews, Kevin Parrish and wife Susan of Phoenix, AZ, Steven Parrish and wife Mary of Alta Loma, CA, Garry Boltz and wife Elizabeth of San Ramon, CA, Larry Boltz and wife Suzanne of Copper Canyon, TX; two great nephews, Nicholas and Christopher Boltz; a great niece, Christina Boltz; and a sister-in-law Goldie Boltz Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Lyman Boltz and step father Paul Cockrum.
Betty Jean was a sports enthusiast having enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing and bowling. After retirement she became an avid golfer with four holes-in-one, one on the Edina Golf Course. She enjoyed her many trips to Edina spending time with her mother and playing cards with friends. After moving to Mesa, AZ to reside with her sister she enjoyed dancing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Betty will be cremated and memorial services will be handled at a later date. Burial will be in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Arrangements are being handled by the Hudson- Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
