North Shelby (7-10) got off to a strong start, bolting to a 16-4 lead over Brashear in January 23, 2023 non-conference boys action at North Shelby. The Tigers (8-9) popped off a ten point run to get back in the game.
North Shelby found open shooters and took advantage of Brashear missed interior scoring chances in the second half for a 57-49 win. The teams sank18 field goals each. North Shelby tossed in five home run balls to three for Brashear.
North Shelby sank six of 12 free throws. Brashear was 6-16 from the line.
North Shelby led 19-16 after one period of play. The second quarter featured entertaining play. The Tiges showed more energy and competed hard in the second period. JD Rich and Carson Erwin scored at the 6:03 mark of the second period for a 22 all tie.
North Shelby turned in a streak of six unanswered points for a 28-22 edge with 2:16 showing on the second quarter clock. The Raiders led 31-27 at the half. North Shelby found the open man during a 17-9 Raider run in the third quarter for a 48-36 lead.
Gabe Orr hurt the Tigers with his floor play. Orr put the Raiders up 52-41 with five minutes to play in the game. Lucas Keller finished strong with a well executed driving layup for the 57-49 final.
JD Rich recovered from a knee injury suffered during the North Shelby Tournament for a game high 25 points. Jade Daniel scored 13 points. Casey Shockley turned in seven points. Gabe Orr scored six points.
Carson Erwin fired in 16 points for Brashear. Lucas Keller was in double figures with 11 points. Avery Zentz scored six points. Jack Reeves and Cole Erwin scored five points each. Deyton White put in four points. Alex Houghton added two Tiger points.
