The Atlanta Lady Hornets and North Missouri Knights boys brought home the first place trophies from the 94th Annual Brashear Tournament, held February 6-11, 2023. Clay Bond fired in 21 points, leading the Knights (23-5) to a 56-52 win over top seeded Atlanta in the boys’ championship game.
Brashear (12-12) rode a 35 point night from Junior Carson Erwin to a 74-69 win over Novinger (10-15) in the boys’ third place game. Wes Findling poured in a game high 37 Wildcat points.
The Kirksville boys JV won their consolation championship with a 53-50 win over Marion County. Bevier downed the Canton JV in the boys seventh place contest.
Atlanta drilled Novinger by a 77-32 margin in the boy’s semifinal round. The Knights edged Brashear by a 58-54 score in the semifinals. Third seeded Brashear topped Marion County by a 71-58 final in first round play.
The Knights girls’ team topped Brashear (9-15) in the semifinals Brashear downed the Kirksville JV 40-33 in first round action. The North Shelby JV girls participated. Novinger downed the Lady Raiders 69-35 in first round play North Shelby bested the Kirksville JV girls 46-22 in the consolation semifinals.
The 94th Annual Brashear All Tournament Girls’ team featured MVP Kyley Magers of Atlanta. Aislynn Baker and Sylvie Christensen also represented the Lady Hornets. Lacey Fisher and Aubrey Borgmeyer of Brashear were All-Tournament selections.
Abby Fountain and Kelsey Frederick were Novinger All-Tournament picks. Ellie Reinsch of the North Missouri Knights, Marissa McEwen of North Shelby and Aylah Pollard of Marion County rounded out the Girls’ All-Tournament team.
Roman Phillips of Atlanta was the Boys’ MVP. JJ White and Landon Gilliland were Hornet All-Tournament selections. Cole Johnson and Clay Bond were North Missouri Knights Boys’ All-Tournament picks. Wes Findling and Jace Bonnell of Novinger, Mason Reed of Atlanta, Joey Lageman of Marion County and Lucas Keller of Brashear were 2023 Boys’ All-Tournament Team players.
