Adair County R-II Superintendent Josh Brummit announced to the Edina Sentinel their boy’s head basketball coach for the 2023-24 school year would be a familiar face. Current high school girls’ basketball coach Emily Powell has been selected to lead the Tiger boys.
Emily Powell replaces Shelbi Followwill who resigned after two years at Brashear. Coach Powell retains her position as head girls basketball coach. She will also take over as Athletic Director, replacing Shelbi Followwill.
Emily Powell was hired by Brashear HS after leaving the Kirksville varsity girls basketball coaching job. Coach Powell continued to teach at Kirkville and coach girl’s golf.
Emily Powell will continue her teaching career at Brashear teaching PE. “I am thankful for the opportunity to work full time at the Brashear school district as a teacher, athletic director and coach,” Emily Powell told the Edina Sentinel.
“I look forward to working with our dedicated and passionate coaches and student-athletes. We will continue to build on the strong tradition of the Brashear Tigers.”
