John Higgins and Carson Erwin got three hits each and Cole Erwin pitched a one hitter leading Brashear (4-6) to a 13-1 win over Sturgeon in April 25, 2023 varsity baseball at Brashear.
Tavin Kalinowski helped Sturgeon take advantage of a one out walk, lofting a two run first inning homer over the fence for a 2-0 lead. Brashear answered when John Higgins led off the Tiger first with a single. Cole Erwin forced an error and later stole second base.
Jack Reeves delivered a two RBI double, knotting the tally at two all after the first full inning. Bulldog pitcher Isaac Boles struck out the first two BHS batters of the second inning. John Higgins singled and moved up on another Bulldog error.
Cole Erwin singled. John Higgins scored on an error. Carson Erwin drove in a run with a base hit for a 4-2 Brashear edge after two innings of baseball. Jake Holcomb doubled Avery Zentz home after Zentz led off the Tiger third with a hit.
Paden Jones reached on a fourth inning fielder’s choice and scored on an error for a 5-3 Tiger lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. Brashear set off the scoreboard with an eight run on seven hits fourth for a 13-3 lead.
Alex Houghton hit a three run homer. John Higgins recorded a two RBI double. Carson Erwin had an RBI hit along with Lucas Keller driving in a run on a fielder’s choice.
Alex Graham led off the Sturgeon fifth drawing a walk off Cole Erwin. The Tiger starter was relieved by Jack Reeves after Cole Erwin struck out a man for out number one. Jack Reeves pitched to three batters, striking out a man, hitting another and ending the game with a fly out to center field.
Sturgeon scored three runs on one hit and three left on base. Isaac Boles pitched three and a 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, two walks on 13 hits. Tavin Kalinowski finished up on the mound, tossing the final third of an inning, fanning the only batter he faced.
Brashear scored 13 runs on 14 hits and two errors in five innings. The Tigers stranded six men on the night. John Higgins was 3-4 with three runs scored and two batted in. Carson Erwin went 3-4 at bat with a run scored and three driven in. Alex Houghton had a home run and three RBI’s.
Cole Erwin pitched four and a third innings for the win. Erwin struck out ten of his 18 batters faced with one walk on one hit. Two of the three Bulldog runs were earned.
Brashear was defeated by Marion County by a 9-8 final score on April 28.
