Brashear Wins Slugfest Over Novinger Wildcats

Brashear and Novinger combined for a total of five home runs during a 14-3 Tiger win over their Conference and Adair County rival Novinger. The May 2, 2023 contest at Brashear saw Carson Erwin drill two homers and Cole Erwin added a long ball.
Drew Magruder hit a solo shot long ball in the Wildcat third inning. Jace Brownell launched the ball over the fence for a first inning solo shot homer. Baylin Halley plated Jace Brownell in the Novinger third inning for a 2-1 Wildcat lead.
Brashear tallied their first run of the day when Cole Erwin reached Wildcat starter Jace Brownell for a one out double. Carson Erwin laced an RBI triple, tying the game at one each after the first frame.
Avery Zentz drew a walk leading off the second inning. Jace Brownell struck out two Tiger batters then induced a ground out for a scoreless second inning.
Four Novinger errors contributed to a ten run Brashear third inning. Lucas Keller started the fireworks with a leadoff double. Cole Erwin singled, then Carson Erwin hit a home run over the fence. Jake Holcomb stroked an RBI double.
Cole Erwin hit another Tiger long ball. Jack Reeves and Alex Houghton reached base and scored. Brashear held an 11-2 advantage after two innings.
Drew Magruder slammed a Novinger home run in the top of the fifth inning. John Higgins drew a two out walk in the bottom half of inning five. Cole Erwin singled. Carson Erwin hit a game winning home run.
Brashear claimed the 14-3 run rule win in five innings. Novinger scored three runs on five hits and five errors. Wildcat senior Jace Brownell was 2-3 with two runs scored along with a home run.
Jace Brownell pitched four and a third innings with four walks, ten strikeouts on eight hits. Four of the 12 runs charged to the Wildcat starter were earned. Baylin Halley finished the game, facing two batters. Halley was charged with two hits and two earned runs.
Brashear scored 14 runs on ten hits and two errors. Cole Erwin went 4-4 with a home run, four runs scored and two driven in. Carson Erwin was 2-4 with three runs scored and four batted in along with two home runs. Jack Reeves went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Jacob Holcomb and Lucas Keller were 1-3 with a run scored and two batted in each.
Cole Erwin pitched the first three and a third innings for the win. Cole Erwin struck out five with one walk on five hits. Two earned runs were charged to the Tiger starter. John Higgins pitched the final inning and 2/3 for Brashear. Higgins struck out two with no walks on one hit. The single run charged to John Higgins was earned.
