 VERNA MARIE HAMLIN 

Verna Marie Hamlin, age 93, of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, in the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri. She was born west of Baring, Missouri, on August 16, 1929, the daughter of James Henry and Cliffie Dale Scott Kilbride. 

She was united in marriage to Roland Jay Hamlin on January 22, 1949, in Edina, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2017. Verna Marie was also preceded by her parents; one son, Stephen Jay Hamlin; one brother, Francis Pearl Kilbride; two sisters, Margaret Edna Cashman Mehaffy, and Lenora Blanche Smith Humphries; and one granddaughter-in-law, Pam Hamlin; along with several brother’s and sister’s-in-law. 

Surviving are two sons, James (Kathy) Hamlin of Hurdland, MO, and David (Audrey) Hamlin of Edina, MO; five grandchildren, Darrell Hamlin and Cristina of Leavenworth, KS, J.B. (Valerie) Hamlin of Kirksville, MO, Tara (John) Kempt of Wallace, MO, Brett (Bryana) Hamlin of New Sharon, IA, and Adrienne (Danton) Harvey of Macon, MO; nine great grandchildren, Andy (Jamie) Hamlin, Erica Hamlin, Ava and Lauren Hamlin, Mallory, Holly and Lincoln Hamlin, Kenton and Vivienne Harvey; seven great-great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Kilbride of Morton, IL; and brother’s and sister’s-in-law, Frank Hamlin, Tom Hamlin and Maurine, Harley (Judy) Hamlin, Nancy Hamlin, Betty Shahan, Mildred Hamlin, and Garles Hamlin; and several nieces and nephews. 

Verna Marie attended Fox School and Hurdland High School graduating May 9, 1947. She joined the Church of the Nazarene in Hurdland on February 15, 1955. During the years of membership, she held different positions in the Church. She was the Church pianist, served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary and Treasurer of the Nazarene Young people group, church board steward, church secretary and treasurer. In August 1979 she was appointed by the Missouri District of the Church of the Nazarene as supply person to oversee the work of the church in the absence of an Ordained Pastor. She was also the church pianist for twelve years at the Hurdland United Methodist Church during their early morning Sunday service. Roland and Verna Marie also visited the Sabbath Home Church near Brashear and the Brashear United Methodist Church for special services. In February 1975 Verna was elected to the Board of the Knox County Ambulance District. She was Director of all Liberty and Lyon Township. She served on the board for nine years. Verna Marie loved flowers, cooking, reading the Bible and spending time with her family. 

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2023, in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO. Pastor Brian Burton will officiate the services. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. 

Casket bearers will be Mark Shahan, Jeff Hamlin, Darrell Hamlin, Danton Harvey, Brett Hamlin, and J.B. Hamlin. 

Honorary bearers will be Glen Moots, Leon Moots, Frank Hamlin, Harley Hamlin, Tom Hamlin, and Larry Sykes.
