DENNIS O. BROOKHART
Dennis O. Brookhart, age 83, of Kahoka, Missouri, formerly of Newark, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, in Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri.
He was born November 26, 1940, in Novelty, Missouri, the son of Ogle Sylvester and Ellen Ballinger Brookhart. He was united in marriage to Darlene Warren on July 15, 1958, in Edina, Missouri, and to this union four children were born. He later married Joyce Rassette in April 1974. She preceded him in death, in November 2013. He was fortunate to find love again with his soulmate, Shirley Higdon, whom he married February 2015. She preceded him in death in March 2024.
Dennis was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Francis Brookhart, William (Linda) Brookhart, Jack (Pauline) Brookhart, Vern Lockard, sister Ann (Bill) Simpson.
Surviving are: Children, Teresa (Chuck) Gartner, Auburn, WA, Dennis W. Brookhart Burlington, IA, Billy (Shannon) Brookhart, Maple Valley, WA, Libby (Scott) Goben Kahoka, MO, step-children, Rhonda Rassette, Newark, MO, Tina Holloway, Keosauqua, IA, Eric (Moe) Higdon, Mediapolis, IA, grandchildren, Adrian Hill, Natalie Guest, Allison Keyser, Amiee Tucker, Clinton (CJ) Brookhart, Christina Brooks, Jennifer Jackson, Shelby Goben, Roni Harkey, Scott Goben, Jr., step grandchildren, Rayann Rassette, Bethany McCoy and Dylan McCoy, sister, Faye Cousins, sister-in-law Glenna Lockart. He had 32 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Dennis was engaged in farming growing up with his dad. He also drove a truck for Burrus and Troutman Trucking in Memphis, MO, Truck Transport in Ft. Madison, IA. He worked at Sinclair Gas Station in Memphis, MO. He was also employed as a welder in Milton, IA, a cop in LaGrange, MO and worked for Lockard Construction. From 1984 to 1995 he started his own business L&B Company. He then semi-retired and moved back to Missouri and bought a farm.
His greatest enjoyment was playing cards and poker with friends and family. Even going to the casino now and then. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the farm, loved watching old reruns of Gunsmoke, Bonanza and the Rifleman. He was also a great dancer in his time doing the jitterbug and the two step, even square dancing.
Dennis was of the Christian faith and was baptized at Novelty First Christian Church. Dennis attended schools in Novelty and Edina. He worked hard to achieve his GED at the age of 36.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 6, 2024, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., and services will begin at 12 noon at the Funeral Home. Officiating will be Reverend Michael Ryan. Burial will be in the Novelty Cemetery. Musical selections during the services will be “Seven Spanish Angels”, “Old Rugged Cross”, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”. “Lord Lead Me Home” to be played at the Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Dennis Wayne Brookhart, Billy jack Brookhart, Chuck Gartner, Scott Goben, C.J. Brookhart, Adrian Hill, Scott Goben Jr., and Jim Simpson.
