It has been just over two years since free Missouri Sunshine Law training was offered in the far northeast corner of the state, and we’re excited to announce that we are once again partnering with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office and the Missouri Sunshine Coalition to bring it back.
On Jan. 29, 2025, near the end of this month, Jay Turner from the attorney general’s office will be in Edina and Palmyra to offer Missouri Sunshine Law training to anyone interested in learning more.
These training sessions are designed to educate anyone working in an elected public office, including city councils, school boards, health departments, nursing homes, hospital districts, ambulance districts, library districts, water commissions, planning commissions, county officeholders and their deputies, city clerks and staff, as well as anyone with an interest in the law. Everyone is welcome.
The Knox County Community Center in Edina and the Northeast Power campus in Palmyra have agreed to facilitate this mission by providing locations to host these training opportunities free of charge, and we are grateful for their support.
The training sessions will last roughly 90 minutes to two hours. Attendees should consider bringing a notepad because a large amount of information will be delivered. There is no need to RSVP. Please arrive at the training location early enough to get a seat and settle in before the session begins.
The NEMOnews Media Group is in the process of notifying as many public boards as possible, requesting that they add this training opportunity to their next public meeting agendas and record that it was discussed in their public meeting minutes.
We are also asking the public to help us spread the word. Please pass this invitation along to anyone who could benefit from learning more about the Sunshine Law, including members of public boards who could use this valuable resource.
Those who attended our last Sunshine Law training in November 2022 should consider attending again this year. Laws change, and each Sunshine Law training session includes updates to reflect the most recent changes.
This year’s training sessions will be held at 10 a.m. in Edina and 1:30 p.m. in Palmyra. Refreshments will be provided by the Missouri Sunshine Coalition and Northeast Power, with support from the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.
We are also grateful to have the support of local news outlets in helping spread the word about this opportunity. This training not only supports public boards that may not otherwise have access to Sunshine Law training but also benefits the citizens they serve.
