Brig. Gen. Gordon R. Meyer serves as Chief of Staff-Air for the Missouri National Guard. In this capacity, he is responsible for full-spectrum support to 2,300 Airmen across two wings in the Missouri Air National Guard, for local, state and federal mission sets.
He began his career in aircraft maintenance with the Kansas Air National Guard, working on F-4, F-16, and B-1 aircraft. He received his commission through the Academy of Military Science before serving as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer with the Missouri Air National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing. As a member of the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center cadre, he developed night vision goggle ground operations training to support Mobility Air Forces and was a key facilitator of the Air National Guard’s first-ever Open Skies Treaty mission. Brig. Gen. Meyer commanded at the flight, squadron, and group levels within the 139th Maintenance Group, and also commanded the 139th Mission Support Group.
As Director of Staff-Air for the Missouri National Guard, he was the senior full time air advisor to The Adjutant General. He oversaw the Joint Force Headquarters Air Staff and coordinated use of Air National Guard resources for domestic operations. He served as deputy wing commander for both Missouri Air National Guard wings: The 131st Bomb Wing is a Total Force-Integrated wing providing full spectrum, expeditionary B-2 global strike and combat capabilities. The 139th Airlift Wing conducts C-130 airlift operations around the globe and directly supports the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, which serves United States Mobility Air Forces and trains students from 17 allied nations.
He previously served as the Chief of the Joint Staff, responsible for the support of 12,000 Army and Air personnel for the Missouri National Guard. During his career, he deployed in support of Operations CORONET OAK, SOUTHERN WATCH, and ENDURING FREEDOM.
