Henry A. Hirner and Miss Martha Flynn were married yesterday morning at St. Joseph’s Church by the bridegroom’s twin brother, the Rev. Joseph S. Hirner, of Fulton.

BIRTH – Their first child, a son, was born Monday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Sharp of southwest of town. The baby weighed nine lbs. and has been named Junior Johnson Sharp.
WED – Miss Flossie Murray and Stiefel Wilkerson stole a march on their neighbors and friends and were married April 5 but kept the fact secret until the Friday following.
IN MEMORY – Funeral services for Mary Kaylor, 6-year-old twin and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse M. Kaylor of four miles west of Edina, who died Wednesday noon of last week were Friday morning at the Linville Cemetery.
Miss Margaret McGinnis, 36, died at her home Sunday evening. Mrs. Malinda Kurtz, 86, died Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.C. Tucker, in Baring.

ILL – Miss Josephine Dye, a student of Bible Grove High School was brought home Tuesday ill of measles, Pleasant Ridge West item.
WED – Miss Elizabeth Rouner and Paul McCullough of Knox City were married in Quincy last Thursday afternoon. Miss Evelyn Powell of Edina and Wilbur Burk of Lewistown were married Saturday evening at the home of the officiating pastor, the Rev. W.W. Webb, pastor of the Edina Baptist Church.

SILVER STAR RECIPIENT – Larry T. O’Rourke has been awarded the Silver Star according to a letter from Brigadier General Hugh Hoffman, U.S. Army to Larry’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas O’Rourke.
COMMISSIONS – Earl Whiteaker of Hurdland recently received a commission of second Lieutenant upon completion of the leadership and battle training course held for selected combat men of the Fifth Army in Italy.
Major L.F. Cottey of Arlington, Virginia, the sone of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Cottey of Edina received the promotion to Lieutenant Colonel and has been transferred to the general staff at Washington, D.C.
IN MEMORY – The Rev. J.S. Hirner, 60, a native of Edina, died Tuesday noon at St. Mary Hospital in St. Louis.

BIRTH – Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Eyler of Baring are the parents of a son, Anthony Kenneth, born Fridya evening, April 16, 1965, at St. Mary Hospital, Quincy, Illinois.
FAREWELL LINDINA – The last picture show house in Edina is largely gone, the Lindina Theater. It was wrecked this week by Chester Drawe, contractor of La Grange, and his crew, who built the building of R.E. Schofield, editor for the Edina Sentinel on South Main Street and did other building work for him and others “up here”. The room, 25×85, had the brickwork in front smashed and deposited in the rear where a 2-foot drop in the downhill floor had to be filled up. The old projection room will be left as a storage room of 25×12 ft. Delbert Hawkins having the work done.

EARN STATE DEGREE – Members of the Knox County FFA Chapter, Philo Rogers of La Belle, Stephen Glasgow of Rutledge and Tim Ahern of Shelbyville earned the State Farmer Degree at the annual FFA Convention in Columbia.
BIRTH – Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Michael Meek of Kirksville are the parents of a son, Christopher Michael, born April 11, 1975, at Grim-Smith Hospital, Kirksville.
WEATHER – According to John Wylie, assistant state forester for the Dept. of Conservation said, “If Missouri’s cold spell ever breaks and warm weather arrives, the spring woods are likely to look like the aftermath of a florists’ convention. We are two weeks, maybe more, behind a normal spring. Early blooming trees, such as service berry and wild plum, and some of the early blooming wildflowers, such as bluets and Johnny jump-ups, should have bloomed already, but are just beginning.”

50 YEARS OLD – The Courthouse of Knox County has proven the test of time, for fifty years at least. The structure, which stands in the middle of the Edina square, is the second Courthouse building to be in the town’s square and was built during the summer of 1935.A celebration of some type on the date the building was dedicated, September 13, will be held.
ENGAGED – The engagement of Mary Ellen Kiley to Craig Joseph Kurth was announced by her parents. A June 29 wedding date set. The engagement of Tina Mason to Christopher Longano was announced with a June 8 wedding date announced. The engagement of Lisa Mahones to Craig E. Strutzel was announced with a wedding date of June 1 set.

PROGRESS – The construction crew of Maguire Iron of Sioux Falls, South Dakota put the two cap sections on the Edina City water tower April 13. Workers reported the hope of having the tower work completed by next week, weather permitting.
