The Knox County 4-H/FFA Fairgrounds, in partnership with the Knox County 4-H Council and MU Extension Knox County, continue to make improvements to the new fairgrounds and create opportunities to engage the community during the annual fair season.
Recent improvements have been made to the fairgrounds in preparation for the upcoming Knox County 4-H/FFA Fair, scheduled for July 8–11, 2025. (See the fair schedule elsewhere in this issue.) Gutters were added to the new building with the support of the FCS Financial Shaping Rural Missouri Grant, the Missouri Department of Agriculture’s Building Our American Communities Grant, and the Knox County Extension Council. A new flagpole, generously donated by NEMO Heating and Air, LLC, now stands proudly on the grounds and will fly the American and 4-H flags during fair week. Additionally new rock has been added to the parking area, purchased by the Fair Board and hauled by Witherow Construction. These updates are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the fairgrounds for participants and visitors alike.
All events/shows will be open to spectators except art hall judging. We look forward to sharing our efforts with the community that has given us overwhelming support as we wrap up phase one of the Knox County 4-H/FFA Fairgrounds project. Come out to the fairgrounds each evening to enjoy fundraiser meals hosted by local organizations and stay to watch the future leaders of our community #learnbydoing.
The fair board is offering another opportunity to engage the community this year, the first Knox County Community Showcase, an open art hall for the public to showcase their talents through a variety of exhibits in various categories. This event will be held following the youth art hall judging on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, prizes will be awarded Tuesday evening, and exhibitors can display their talents during fair week.
Fair week will kick off on Tuesday morning, July 8th with art hall judging and the dog show that afternoon. Returning for the second year in a row is the 4-H Clover Kids Small Animal Show, a big hit last year! The small animal show is a great opportunity for our Clover Kids members, ages 5-7 years old, to practice exhibiting live animals by sharing pets and critters with the public. Evening festivities will continue with the Fashion Revue next, followed by the Knox County Community Showcase awards, the Art Hall Awards and Clover Kids ceremony. Tuesday evening will close with the Royalty Coronation. Seven youth recently competed in the areas of demonstrations, interviews, and 4-H stories for princess, prince, queen, and king, and four dedicated 4-H members will be crowned Tuesday evening to represent Knox County in the upcoming year.
Livestock exhibitors will start early Wednesday morning, July 9, readying their sheep and swine for the shows that evening. Rumor has it that community members may have the opportunity to “Kiss a Pig” this year to help raise money for the fairgrounds project. If you are interested in helping us raise funds by volunteering to be a “pig-kisser,” please contact the Extension Office!
On Thursday evening, July 10, there will be a dairy show, followed by an in county and an open beef show. Friday morning, July 11 will feature the rabbits and poultry shows. On Friday evening, don’t forget to attend the sale and see all the hard work that Knox County youth have put into their art hall and livestock projects over the past year, and consider purchasing an exhibit to support their efforts. Before the sale, one deserving member will be awarded the Eyman Sportsmanship Award. See you at the fair!
