June Meeting Minutes
DRAFT – The Knox County Historical Society members met and dined at the Blue Room in Edina on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. They later adjourned to the Museum for a business meeting at 7:00 p.m. on the back deck.
Brent Karhoff called the meeting to order. Motion was made by Janice McGinnis and seconded by Pam Witherow to approve the minutes of the April 15th meeting. Motion carried.
Janice McGinnis, Treasurer, reported a current balance of $6,475 in the checking account and gave a detailed listing of the revenue and expenditure since the last meeting. Motion was made by Pam Witherow and seconded by Betty Jo Gonnerman to approve this report. Motion carried.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS – Brent said the set-up for the yard sale will be Friday, June 13th at 4:00 p.m. This is an annual fundraiser on Saturday and is scheduled to coincide with the City-Wide Yard Sales in Edina. Volunteers are always needed as well as donations.
Brent said there was some standing water in the basement of the Museum after the last big rain and he will monitor the situation in case someone needs to be contacted regarding the drain.
NEW BUSINESS – Brent expressed appreciation to Bobbi Clark, CPA, for her support of the Historical Society. She recently filed the necessary IRS form for the Knox County Historical Society to continue as a tax-exempt organization.
The City of Edina has been approved for a CDBG Demolition Grant which includes 3 buildings (300- 302 E. LaFayette St. and 102 S. Main St.) which are located in the Edina Double Square Historic District. This was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The condition of these buildings was discussed and there was a consensus of the members that it would be in the best interest of the City of Edina to have these buildings demolished. Brent said he will draft a letter to participate with the City of Edina in the development of the Memorandum of Agreement with the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office and to support the preservation of the histories of the structures through written record, including photographs.
Brent reported that he recently attended an interesting program in Macon presented by Wade King. He said the program was about “Bloody Bill Anderson”, a notorious Confederate guerrilla leader during the Civil War. There was a consensus to have Brent ask Mr. King to present his program in Edina on June 30th at the Nutrition Site.
Motion was made by Pam Witherow and seconded by Janice McGinnis to adjourn. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
