GEORGE EGBERT

George W. Egbert, 89, formerly of Memphis, Missouri, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Florida after a long battle with cancer.

He was born April 21, 1936, to Maenard and Reta Egbert in Gorin, Missouri.

He graduated from Gorin High School in 1954 where he excelled in basketball. George attended the University of Missouri and was drafted in the Army in 1955. After his service in the Army, George purchased a farm north of Gorin, Missouri. In 1965, George and his family moved to Memphis, Missouri, where he began his love of selling with FASCO, Inc., an Allis-Chalmers farm equipment dealership. In 1981, he moved to Florida where he began his career selling Mercedes Benz and Porsche automobiles. After 13 years in the automobile industry, he purchased a yellow Peterbilt tractor-trailer and began his long-haul traveling all over the United States. In 1998, he began work as a Safety Director for a small trucking company in the Atlanta, Georgia area before retiring.

George was active in the Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. George was known for his entertaining stories, which he loved to tell often.

George is survived by his two children, Kris Egbert of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Kimberly (Michael) Young of Wentzville, Missouri; Six grandchildren, Jenna (Denny) Ward of Memphis, Missouri, Marcus (Brooke) Shalley of Bloomfield, New Mexico, Elle Egbert of Hudson, North Carolina, Olivia Egbert of Holly Springs, North Carolina, Hannah Young and Nicole Young of Columbia, Missouri; Two great-grandchildren, Bryleigh and Rucker Ward of Memphis, Missouri; Two sisters, Mary Anna Troutman of Memphis, Missouri and Patty Golbricht of Memphis, Missouri, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Nelson Golbricht and Don Troutman. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Gorin Cemetery in Gorin, Missouri.
