Brashear Earns 89.2% on State Report, Maintains High Performance
BRASHEAR, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released its 2024-25 Annual Performance Report (APR) for the Adair County R-II School District, better known as Brashear Schools. The district earned 89.2 percent of the total points possible, maintaining full accreditation and placing among the top-performing small districts in Northeast Missouri.
The APR evaluates schools on academic achievement, student growth, attendance, graduation, and readiness for college or careers. Brashear’s results show high academic performance across multiple subjects, strong attendance, and perfect graduation rates.
In English Language Arts, Brashear’s mean proficiency index (MPI) was 390.9, slightly above the state average of 385.5. About 10.4 percent of students scored below basic, while 44.7 percent were proficient and 25.3 percent advanced. Mathematics scores were also strong, with an MPI of 394.0, compared to the state’s 373.8, and 34.1 percent of students proficient and 27.8 percent advanced.
Science results were among the best in the region, with an MPI of 408.4, far above the state average of 377.3, and 48.3 percent of students proficient and 29 percent advanced. In social studies, Brashear also exceeded statewide averages, posting an MPI of 390.5, with 43.7 percent proficient and 50 percent advanced.
The district reported a 100 percent graduation rate across all reporting years and an outstanding attendance rate of 94 percent, compared to 82.9 percent statewide. Every student in the district has an Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP), and all kindergarten students were screened for school readiness.
Graduate follow-up data showed that 57.1 percent of Brashear graduates enrolled in college, while others entered the workforce or military service. The district also earned a perfect 100 percent of possible points in the “Continuous Improvement” category, which measures leadership, planning, and compliance with state and federal standards.
Overall, Brashear earned 150 out of 168 total points, placing it firmly in DESE’s “on track” category. The report highlights consistent academic strength, excellent attendance, and full student readiness for life after graduation.
