Knox County R-I Earns 72.7% on Annual State Report
EDINA, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released its 2024-25 Annual Performance Report (APR) for the Knox County R-I School District. The district earned 72.7 percent of the total points possible, maintaining full accreditation under the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6).
The APR evaluates school districts on academic achievement, growth, attendance, graduation, and readiness for college or careers. Knox County’s results show steady progress in several areas, particularly in science and social studies, along with strong attendance and full compliance with state standards.
In English Language Arts, Knox County posted a mean proficiency index (MPI) of 369.4, compared to the state average of 385.5. About 19.5 percent of students scored below basic, while 50 percent were proficient and 9 percentadvanced. In mathematics, the MPI was 358.6, compared to 373.8 statewide, with 33.4 percent of students proficient and 14 percent advanced.
Science and social studies continued to be bright spots. The district’s science MPI was 380.6, slightly above the state average of 377.3, with 33.7 percent proficient and 17.4 percent advanced. In social studies, Knox County recorded an MPI of 382.6, with 72.5 percent of students proficient and 25 percent advanced, outperforming statewide results.
Knox County’s graduation rate was 84.3 percent for four years, improving to 94.4 percent by the fifth year. The district also maintained a strong attendance rate of 85.6 percent, above the state average of 82.9 percent. Every student in the district has an Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP), and 95 percent of kindergarten students were assessed for school readiness.
Graduate follow-up data showed that 41 percent of Knox County graduates enrolled in college, 26 percent entered the workforce, and 23 percent joined the military or service programs. The district also earned 98.3 percent of available points in the “Continuous Improvement” section, which evaluates planning, leadership, and compliance.
Overall, Knox County R-I earned 142.5 out of 196 total points, placing it in DESE’s “approaching” range under MSIP 6. The results highlight solid academic growth and strong participation, with areas such as reading and math identified for continued improvement in future district planning.
