El Dorado Springs (29-3) powered to a 24-7 lead in the March 11, 2022 Class 3 girl’s state championship game at Springfield and never looked back in a 61-26 win over South Shelby (25-5) win. The Lady Bulldogs scored the first six points. Emma Dovin fired in a three ball for a 6-3 El Dorado Springs lead.

Miranda Patterson led the Lady Birds with 11 points. Tevi Gurley led three Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points. South Shelby earned their way to the State Championship Game with a 45-31 win over West County in the semifinals.

The Lady Birds beat Tipton by a 61-48 margin in the quarterfinal round and took a 52-28 win over Elsberry in the Sectional round by a 52-28 final. Strafford won third place 64-34 over West County.

Charleston (29-3) beat Lafayette County (30-2) by a 58-56 squeaker for the Class 3 Boys Championship. Cade Limback sank a put back with 36 seconds to play in the game for the win.

Thayer (29-2) beat St. Louis Duchesne (15-18) by a 70-45 margin in the third place game. The Pioneers knocked off second ranked Monroe City at the St. Charles Sectional by a 45-44 final score on the way to Springfield.

Mid Buchanan (22-7) topped Milan (20-9) at the Truman State Class 3 Boys Sectional by a 49-33 final score. East Buchanan (18-12) edged Milan (22-7) by a 38-34 in the Kirksville Girls Class 2 Sectional.

Norwood (331-1) edged Bernie (29-2) by a 64-63 final score to win the Class 2 Boys State Championship. Garrett Davault took advantage of a Peyton McDaris steal, scoring the winning points with 22 seconds in the game. DaVault scored a game high 24 Pirate points.

Bernie stopped Putnam County’ first in school history bid for the Class 2 Boys Basketball top prize by a 79-75 margin in the semifinal round. Lance Fowler led four Midgets in double figures with 20 points.

Owen Ream tied the semifinal game at 71 with a three ball at the 2:13 mark of regulation. Putnam County led 37-34 at intermission. The Mules closed on an 8-4 run.

Putnam County brought home the third place trophy with a 57-55 win over St. Joseph Bishop LeBlond. The Midgets cracked off a 15-7 third quarter run, overcoming a 28-24 halftime deficit.

Zach Heidenwith scored with 17 seconds in the game for a 57-53 lead. Alex Libel pulled the Golden Eagles (20-12) within a field goal with a put back with one second showing on the clock.

Hayden Cross stole the ball for Bishop LeBlond. A Golden Eagle three point try for the win was no good and the 57-55 Midget win. Putnam County finished with a 25-3 overall record. Zach Heidenwith led three Midgets in double figures with a game high 19 points.

Putnam County’s path to Springfield included a 62-40 win over Knox County in the Schuyler County Boy’s District Championship game. Putnam County topped Clopton 54-43 in the Hannibal Sectional then a 70-65 win over Sedalia Sacred Heart (25-5) at the Moberly Class 2 Boys Quarterfinal.

Wellington-Napolean (28-2) took the Class 2 Girls Championship with a 52-31 win over Ellington. Ayden Shannon led the Lady Tigers with 20 points. Blue Eye (27-6) powered past Concordia St. Paul Lutheran (23-7) by a 57-19 final in the Class 2 girls third place game.

St. Paul Lutheran edged Scotland County (24-4) by a 45-44 final at the Moberly Class 2 Girls quarterfinal. The Lady Tigers won the Schuyler County Class 2 District tournament over host Schuyler County (24-4) by a 47-41 final score.

Schuyler and Scotland County were Lewis and Clark Conference Girl’s Co-Champions in the 2021-22 season. Scotland County topped Cairo (24-6) by a 64-35 final score in Hannibal Sectional play.

Platte Valley, a coop between Jefferson County at Conception Junction and South Nodaway County in Northwest Missouri defeated Delta (28-2) by a 63-50 final in the Class 1 Girls State Championship game. Platte Valley finished with a 29-1 overall record. Jaclyn Pappert led Platte Valley with 21 points.

Leeton (25-3) defeated Walnut Grove (23-9) in the Class 1 girls third place game. Marion County (21-6) downed Linn County (!7-13) at the Salisbury Sectional. Leeton topped Marion County 65-38 in the Class 1 girls Kirksville quarterfinal.

Top ranked South Iron County (28-4) repeated as state champions, defeating Stanberry (25-4) by a 71-45 final score in the Class 1 boys state championship game. Iron County induced the Bulldogs to turn the ball over 15 times to five Panther turnovers.

Iron County went on a decisive 23-8 second quarter run. Drenin Dinkins led all scorers with 34 Panther points. Austin Schwebach led Stanberry with 17 points. Tyler Schwebach scored nine Bulldog points.

St. Elizabeth (19-11) downed Wellsville-Middletown (20-8) 50-45 in the Class 1 boys third place game. The Tigers got to the final four downing North Shelby (20-7) by a 66-59 margin in the quarterfinal round. The Raiders topped Northwestern of Mendon 79-47 at the Salisbury boys Sectional.

Eighth ranked Green City (23-7) won the Mercer Class 1 District 14 boys’ championship with a 63-38 win over Grundy County/Newtown-Harris. The Gophers advanced to the Missouri Western University at St. Joseph quarterfinal with a 73-50 win over Braymer at the St. Joseph Civic Center Sectional.

Stanberry edged Green City by a 50-47 final after a dramatic final ten seconds in the boys’ quarterfinal round. The Bulldogs beat Wellsville-Middletown 45-40 in overtime at their Class 1 semifinal game at Springfield.

The Jefferson City Helias Catholic boys and girls basketball teams qualified for the Class 4-6 MSHSAA Basketball semifinals, scheduled for March 18-19. The Lady Crusaders (23-7) play St. Joseph Benton (24-5) at 4PM on May 18 in the Class 4 girls’ semifinals.

The Crusader boys take on Springfield Catholic on March 18 at 8PM in the Class 5 semifinals.  Columbia Father Tolton Catholic plays KC Pembroke Hill in the boys Class 4 semifinal round March 18 at 8PM.
