Work began on the Baring Post Office rebuild on Friday, May 3, 2024, with the pouring of the footers by local contractor Snelling & Sons. The team was back in Baring on Monday morning getting ready to pour the foundation this week, weather permitting.
A crew from Zahringer Electric was on site Monday, May 6, digging in water and sewer line trenches as the foundation forms were being built.
Hillside Metals, another local contractor, is expected to drop off the building materials for the new post office early in the week.
Weather permitting, a group of local volunteers from the Mennonite community is expected to begin building late this week or early next week.
The Baring Post Office property was recently purchased by Baring business owner Shannon Downing. Downing also took over the USPS contract and has led the way for the community to again have a post office.
