Edina Prepares for Small Business Saturday and Tree Lighting
By Echo Menges
EDINA, Mo. — The Knox County Chamber of Commerce and the Edina City Work Crew are gearing up for a full slate of holiday activities this weekend, including the annual Small Business Saturday events and the courthouse tree lighting.
After weeks of uncertainty over whether the “magic tree” project would come together in time, organizers confirmed that two 20–30-foot Christmas trees will be installed at the base of the courthouse steps and lit Saturday evening. The Edina City Work Crew has been working steadily this week to assemble the trees and install the city’s Christmas decorations throughout the courthouse square and along Highway 6.
Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive and light the trees at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Festivities begin earlier in the evening. The Knox County Nutrition Site will host a Christmas story reading and cookie decorating with the Knox County Promotional Council starting at 5 p.m., just across Main Street from the courthouse. The Knox County High School Choir will perform carols in the courthouse courtyard beginning at 5:30 p.m. Santa will visit with local children at the Nutrition Site immediately following the lighting.
Several Chamber businesses will be open for the Small Business Saturday shop-local event, offering extended hours, specials and holiday activities:
Jared’s Jams will be open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Rosebud’s Florist & Gifts will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering 10% off all in-store gift items and entry into a Fresh Floral Christmas Centerpiece giveaway with each purchase.
Dee Railed Designs will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Dutch Garden Nursery will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will host a Holiday Open House Nov. 28–29 with 20% off Christmas items and a selection of seasonal décor and gifts.
C&R Market – Edina will host a food and spirit tasting event from 5 to 8 p.m.
KC Community Center will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. for viewing Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and organizations, along with hot chocolate and cookies.
Hardwood Xpress will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will give a free personalized Christmas ornament to all babies born in Knox County in 2025.
Knox County Nutrition Site will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. with Santa visits, cookie decorating and a Christmas story reading.
The Chamber’s annual Chamber Bucks raffle will also return this season, with six $50 gift certificates to be awarded during a live online drawing on Dec. 15. Entry is free at any participating Chamber business, and this year’s earlier drawing date gives winners more time to shop locally for the holidays.
