Highland split their January 16, 2020 Clarence Cannon Conference opening games with Macon. The home games were moved up one day due to an impending winter storm.
Macon (10-4) leaped to a 20-12 lead and powered to a 59-45 win over the Lady Cougars. The Tigerettes led 33-18 at the half. Highland (5-8, 0-1) outscored Macon 20-12 in the third quarter, fighting back within a 43-38 deficit at one point of the period.
Macon limited Highland to seven points in the fourth quarter for the 59-45 victory. Kate Hawkins, Lexi Miller and Addy Johnson shared game scoring honor with 16 points each. Shelby Petre scored 12 Macon points.
Macon sank 18 field goals and six three pointers. The Tigerettes went 5-7 from the free throw line. Highland converted eight field goals, three home run balls and were 8-13 from the charity stripe in the girls game.
Marissa Abell scored ten Highland points. Ansley Bringer put in six points. Gabby Brown, Lauren Merrell and Audra Dehner scored three points each. Meleah Eisenberg and Summer Goings added two points each.
Highland limited their turnovers to 15 against a very quick, young Macon team and defeated the Tigers (3-10) by a final score of 91-69. Drew Mallett fired in 30 points. Alex Meyer tossed in four home run balls and finished with 22 points.
Dalton Klocke was in double figures with 16 points. Dylan Schroeder scored eight points with ten rebounds. Highland converted 21 field goals and ten three pointers on the night.
Highland was 19-30 from the free throw line for 63%. The Cougars recorded ten steals. Robert Goehl led the team with three thefts. Highland moved the ball effectively, dishing out 18 assists. Drew Mallett and Dylan Schroeder had three assists each. Mallett was 15 of 16 from the field.
