JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Baring Volunteer Fire Department, Edina Fire Department and Knox City Volunteer Fire Department have been approved for state equipment grants of up to $15,000 each from the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The grants are part of a new state initiative to support small volunteer fire departments with limited budgets. Eligible to departments with annual operating budgets of $50,000 or less, the grant program provides up to $15,000 in funding per department, with a required 5 percent local cash match. Edina Notifies Knox County It Will Leave 911 Agreement in 2026

By Echo Menges EDINA, Mo. — The city of Edina has officially notified Knox County that it intends to withdraw from the joint 911 cost-share agreement in January, citing financial shortfalls. The city submitted its letter of notification dated Dec. 9. The agreement, formed in 2013, split the cost of enhanced 911 dispatch services among Knox County, the Knox County Ambulance District and the city of Edina. Each party has paid one-third of the total cost annually. This year, Edina’s share amounted to $31,629. The Knox County Nutrition Site held two raffle fund raisers in December selling tickets for $10 each for a chance to win a $300 or $500 gift card.
